An Early Look At Cal's 2011 Prospects: RB Darren Ervin

Darren Ervin is actually the lowest rated prospect that has committed to the Bears thus far for 2011.  However, he seems to be one of those fly under the radar type of prospects. He may not be highly regarded by espn.com as his rating is a 3 star and 75 our of 100 and has not even been rated on rivals.com yet, but he is pretty good player and I see him contributing to the Bears in the future.

When I looked at film of Ervin, he reminded me a lot of Justin Forsett, another back from Texas that was not highly regarded out of high school. Like Forsett, Ervin is smaller at 5'9, 200lbs. However, Ervin is quick and sees the holes very well. He always seems to be in the right spot when the holes open up.

He also has enough quickness to make the first defender miss and enough speed to get into the second level of the defense. He may not be your classic homerun threat type of back, but he will get you solid yards and get them consistently. Despite his smaller size, he can run over linebackers and also run around them as well.

I see his contribution to Cal much like someone like Justin Forsett. He doesn't necesarily wow you with anything, but then at the end of the year he has 1500+ yards and provides a consistent running attack that demoralizes defenses. I see him being much more than what espn.com and rivals.com are predicting.
